I absolutely LOVE York! It’s literally got everything; shopping, good restaurants and bars, culture, old fashioned Glen designer outlet just outside of the centre. York became the happy middle for me to visit my parents whilst at uni so neither of us had to travel too far (it’s only an hour on the train from Newcastle). Of course, I’d always spend the train journey choosing where to eat. So, here are some of my favourites.
Pavement Vaults
The Pavement Vaults definitely gives Fat Hippo (my fave Newcastle burgers that I always go on about) a run for their money. Like a lot of places in York, this restaurant has history written all over it. They have one of those menus that you just can’t decide on right up until the last minute and you ask everyone else on the table to order first because you’re still not quite ready. One warning for this place; you best be hungry; they don’t do half-hearted portions here.

Sutlers
Sutlers was somewhere we kind of just stumbled across while in York. We tried to go one time and was too busy to get a seat so we knew it must be good and ended up booking for our next visit. Again, this isn’t for the small bellied ones of you out there, these portions were so big I ended up taking some back to uni for tomorrow’s tea! But their reputation did them justice and the meal was brilliant. There’s a chilled pub-like vibe in here so no need to get yourself dressed up just go and enjoy some good food!

Ate O’Clock
We looked at Ate O’clock a good few times before we decided to give it a try. They have a lovely little passageway to walk through with fairy lights and trees. However, I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed when you get through into the actual restaurant, there just wasn’t that homely cute vibe I was hoping for and felt a little outdated. Regardless, they deserve their spot on here because of their food. We were terrible foodies, and all got the burgers (you’ve probably realised by now especially from this post that we’re very much an eat as much as you can/burger-loving family). We left feeling satisfied and glad we had tried the restaurant.

Lucia’s
If you’re sick of all the burger places (sorry!) then here’s one for the smaller eaters and more refined dining. Lucia’s is an Italian Al Fresco restaurant in York and the cutest place I’ve eaten there. I’m kicking myself because I seem to have lost all my photos from last visiting here (it was about 3 years ago tbf). They have an indoor/outdoor vibe going on here and if you find yourself a little chilly, the lovely staff will bring a blanket to keep you warm. It kind of feels like you’re on your holidays. Their menu is another large one offering stone-baked pizza, pasta, risotto, steaks, small plates, sharing boards, and yes even burgers! This is definitely one to try out for a special occasion.

Just some cute pictures of York from my trips…
