Edinburgh Food

So, a few weeks ago @northerneats_ (my Instagram) went even further north to Edinburgh. This was only the second time I’ve properly visited this beautiful city (the first was last Christmas) and I have fallen in love with its culture, pretty scenery and FOOD. So, this blog is going to be all about my food experiences from 2 fabby trips to Edinburgh.

The Boozy Cow

The Boozy Cow was recommended to me by a vegetarian…this place literally has a sign that says, “I love the smell of meat in the morning”, so I knew if a non-meat eater can’t deny its reputation, it must be worth a visit. If you’re into a proper dirty (in a good greasy burger kind of way), underground, eat with your hands, pint to wash it down kind place, you’re in for a treat. They don’t give out any cutlery here and I have to admit it was kinda messy, but I was too embarrassed to ask for any, so I just went for it and so should you.

Bread Meats Bread

BMB seems to be another favourite among the locals here. The food quality is comparable to Boozy Cow in my opinion, and their loaded fries are stupidly good. My one criticism is that there seems to be less of a vibe going on here. It’s got a kind of five guys feels but it’s table service. We ended up being the last ones in there still finishing off our bottle of wine and HUGE burgers while they counted up their tips and subtly hinted for us to leave. Despite this, I’d still go back because they’ve found themselves a place up there with some of my favourite burgers.

Coro The Chocolate Café

If you know me, you know I love me a good chocolate café. The staff in Coro we so lovely and understanding when they had to return to our table 3 times before we’d decided what to have. The menu is just too big to decide on only 1 thing! I went for the build your own dessert and chose stacked pancakes with milk chocolate, caramel sauce, and topped with cookies…10/10 from me. What I liked here is that the portions weren’t ridiculously huge. You can sometimes go to these places and be over-faced with cake and chocolate and roll out the door feeling mega guilty and in need of a nap. Also, because I’m diabetic (and shouldn’t be eating this stuff at all really) I don’t have to use a full pen of insulin just to even out.

Dough

Dough is a pizza takeaway place wonderfully close to my friends flat where I was staying. So close that we could run home to set up the TV, wine, and nibbles while we waited for our tea to be wood-fired. I went for the ham and pineapple which was hilariously named “Don’t be embarrassed to order” (I will never be ashamed to order a pineapple pizza, they’re the best!!). This place has such a cute and cool vibe and they even have homemade oils that you can package up in cute little tubs… they’re fab to dip your crusts into!

The Dome

For me, the Dome in Edinburgh was like sitting in Christmas (this was obvs on my 2018 Christmas trip, not last month). We were in the Club Room but there are various rooms depending on what kind of food/service you’re wanting. This was a real treat for me. The pictures speak for themselves for this one.

Pickering’s Gin Distillery

I know this isn’t food-related but who doesn’t love a G&T? We decided to do something touristy and visit the Pickering’s Gin Distillery on my recent trip. I didn’t know what to expect from this, but I really enjoyed myself. They were so informative and friendly, and I’ve been boring people with my gin facts ever since. For £10 this was such a good deal, even though I was a little tipsy at 12 in the afternoon…
