Pancake Day 2020

Tomorrow is one of my most looked forward to foodie days of the year… Pancake Day! If you know me you know I’ve been obsessed with pancakes from a young age. My Dad used to wake up especially early every morning to make me homemade pancakes before primary school (I was a spoilt child). Therefore, my Dad takes first place on my Pancake Leader Board since he’s perfected the art over the years.

2. Dispensary – Newcastle

The Dispensary was an absolute revolution when it arrived in Newcastle. This edgy, scientific, indulgent café had people queuing outside of their Heber street location (near St James’s). They have now also opened up shop in Stack, so you have double the chances to try the finest pancakes tomorrow. I’ve just seen that they’re offering specials tomorrow and Wednesday; Chocolate Overload Pancakes, White Kinder Bueno Pancakes (OMG get me to Newcastle NOW!), Lemon Meringue Pancakes & Toffee Overload (a brand new flavour).

3. Long Play Café – Newcastle

Me and a friend scouted this place out when we needed a pancake fix. It is located near the Quayside and does the most incredible pancakes. I feel that this isn’t an obvious option but the sheer size of their pancakes and choose of flavours have found themselves at number 3 on my Pancake Leader Board.

4. Creams – Newcastle

Creams is another Newcastle legend and a must for a student at any time of year. I’ve personally been at least 8 times I reckon. They take more of a crepe angle on the pancake which I can dig just as must as the American style ones. Go wild with your toppings here, pretty much anything goes. I can imagine this place will be crazy busy tomorrow so be prepared.

5. Aidan’s Café – Newcastle

I visited Aidan’s recently after seeing their pancakes on Instagram. This is a cute one for tomorrow and they do all sorts of other breakfasts and brunch too for any non-pancake-lovers (weirdos). You can also get half a stack here which is a nice alternative if you’ve already had pancakes for breakfast and have pancake plans for tea (always me on pancake day).

6. Coro – Edinburgh

Now I realise that most of my favourite spots are in Newcastle but it’s only because I spent 3 years there. Coro is here for any of you up in Edinburgh looking for a pancake fix tomorrow. This place is similar to creams in my opinion; you can go wild with flavours, toppings and sauces or as simple as you like. This place is really good value for money for some really tasty pancakes.

My attempts at uni

Don’t feel like you need to go out for pancakes either, its just as much fun (if not more) to make them yourselves at home. We always made a big deal of pancake day at uni, making sure we would run home between lectures to make them. We would buy alllll the toppings in prep from bananas, strawberries, Nutella, syrup, lemon juice, sugar, cookies and even brownies. They didn’t always go to plan…
